So, it is First Friday Flashback, and it is an important one. Dashing Dad is a year old, and what a year its been.
By the Numbers
This will be my 123rd post (including my About page), there were 39 posts about fitness (and races), four about fixing stuff, 15 about food, 19 about things I like (a lot of car reviews including the Dodge Caravan – my most popular post), and 46 of my random babbling. At the time of this writing, I have 1629 Facebook followers, but that number will jump as I am participating in a big giveaway this month (Note: it has jumped to nearly 2000 likes in the last 24 hours). I have about 160 Twitter followers, and a smattering of Pinterest and Instagram folks. I am still trying to figure out all this social media stuff.
In the last year, I had to put down my 12 year old dog because of congenital heart failure, but gained a new one who holds a new special place in my heart. Actually, if it wasn’t for the Dashing Dog (and the Dashing Daughter) I probably would have spiraled into a pretty dark depression. I also lost some dear family and friends. And lastly, I had my car stolen.
On the bright side, the Dashing Daughter is now walking around and terrorizing everything, especially the cat, plus she is just starting to communicate. It won’t be long until she starts babbling coherently. Also, the Dashing family is doing pretty good. Dashing Son is kicking butt in school, he started riding his bike, and has joined the swim team. The Dashing Wife is still working, and everybody is healthy and happy, and we have managed not to increase our debt during my time as a SAHD. Some of my occasional archaeological work has helped in that regard.
While I did not match my race count of 2012 (11 half marathons, 4 10ks, 4 5ks, 3 marathons, and a 20 miler), I did run 5 half marathons (including a PR!), a 10k, a 50k, and a 50 miler in the last year. That’s right, I went ultra. I also got to pace Endorphin Dude a couple of times at AR50, and that was pretty cool.
I also got to meet a bunch of people via Facebook (and a couple in person) that are truly inspiring. Runner Unleashed, Not Fast Just Fabulous, Endorphin Dude, and Run Nerds Rock are but some that come to mind really quickly. I also met an awesome group of blogging dads that has made life more entertaining over the last few months.
I truly appreciate the comments and likes and interaction with everybody who reads my page, and I have enjoyed the Dashing Dad ride that I have been on the last year. Dashing Dad is here to stay, at least for the next three years (I paid for 3 more years of hosting), and I hope for bigger and better things over the next year.
Thank you all
