For Day 5 of the 5 pictures 5 stories challenge (I know it is the sixth day, but yesterday was busy), I figured I would show off my new underwater camera. I have been a scuba diver for more than 20 years now, despite the fact that I haven’t actually done any diving in 3 years, and I have dabbled in underwater photography for almost that long. Things have gotten A TON easier with digital cameras.
There are a bunch of waterproof cameras that are good for 30 feet deep, perfect for the pool and snorkeling, but not the best for scuba diving. Especially if you are planning deeper dives. I like my Canon cameras because they make underwater housing for a bunch of their point and shoot cameras. I can’t speak to any other brand because I have never used them. But I have taken some amazing photos with my, now 3, Canon underwater setups.
The Canon housings are fully functional, and you can do everything but print photos when the camera is in the housing. Actually, with the new wifi cameras, you can send pictures to your printer while in the housing. You can also send photos from the camera to your smartphone and post them on social media. This is nice because, as long as your battery is charged, you don’t have to take the camera out of the housing and risk a leak on the next dive (or when your kid is going to be doing something in the pool again).
While I have probably used my underwater housings more for pool pictures and a few hiking pictures, it is always nice to have the option when on vacation to tropical places to take some underwater photos.
Now, I am supposed to nominate a few folks to continue the 5 pictures 5 stories challenge. But I don’t want to. I don’t know who has done it and who hasn’t. So, instead, I am going to show off a few of my favorite underwater pictures that I have taken.
